ChildSafe Movement - Friends-International

Individuals are often disempowered or simply do not know how to react to situations of abuse of children. This leads to children being left unprotected and abuse becomes more common. But there are solutions. We created the ChildSafe Movement in 2005 to protect children & youth from all forms of abuse, to prevent children & youth from engaging in dangerous behaviors and to influence all tiers of society and the international community so they can create positive environments for children & youth.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

ChildSafe protects children through different avenues:

childsafe-campaigns-paintBehavior Change Campaigns

Behavior change is critical to protect children. By adopting positive behaviors we provide supportive environments to children and youth. We created advocacy campaigns for citizens, travelers – ‘Children are not tourist attractions‘ – and donors – ‘Don’t Create More Orphans‘.

childsafe-training-paintChild Protection Training

We provide trainings to various types of people and organizations. From community members to businesses. These entities are given the tools to protect children and youth in their daily life. They are certified and continuously monitored.

childsafe-hotline-paint24/7 Emergency Hotlines

ChildSafe offers immediate protection to children at risk of being harmed. We have hotlines operating 24/7 across Asia ready to respond to a call about a child in danger. Our ChildSafe social workers take the necessary action to rescue and protect the child.

WHO IS INVOLVED?

We give everyone a way to be involved in protecting children

Individuals

ChildSafe informs all types of individuals. We inform citizens about risks their children are facing and how to be actively involved in protecting them. We create protective environments by training key people in communities. We also inform travelers and volunteers on the most effective ways to protect and support children during their travel.

Companies

ChildSafe provides training to any business to allow their staff to immediately protect children at risk of abuse. Being a supportive or ChildSafe certified business demonstrates a leading role in child protection and helps build a positive and strong community environment. All types of businesses can be trained and promote ChildSafe messages.

NGOs

Through the ChildSafe Alliance, we extend child protection to other countries, creating partnerships with like-minded NGOs working within their communities. We also ensure local authorities and governments are involved in protecting children, and we work with clinics, emergency shelters and counseling hotlines that provide services to children.
